사람들은 보통 날씨 얘기로 첫인사를 건넨다.

날씨의 감각이란 무의식적인 본능과 같은 즉각적인 커뮤니케이션이다. 다양한 컬러의 색테이프를 재료로 도시의 벽면과 평면을 넘나들며 작업하는 김형관은 도시의 날씨는 사람들의 감성과 습관, 즉 삶을 지배하는 가장 근원적인 요소라고 생각한다.

기상관측의 과학적 시스템은 하루가 다르게 발전하지만 시시각각 불완전하고 급변하는 대기를 완전히 예측하기는 불가능하다. 기상관측 예보는 세상에 대한 상상력이 결핍된 부분일 뿐, 당신의 삶과 에너지로 결실을 맺길 기다리고 있을지 모른다.

전시 ‘바람이 으르렁거리고 구름이 달려간다’ 는 컬러테이프의 색상이 겹쳐지면 색이 덩어리가 되고 속도가 되며 시청각적 감각을 넘어선 다층적 공감각의 환상을 제안한다. 서울시청 하늘광장갤러리에 가상의 기상도를 펼쳐놓고 각자가 상상하는 바람과 구름, 폭풍의 에너지를 생각하고 직접 표현하는 행위를 통해 다양한 생각과 물음들이 서로 마주보며 흐르는 교차점이 되기를 바란다.

People generally talks about the weather as their first greetings.

The sense of the weather is a instant way of communication just like an unconscious instinct. To artist Kim who uses colorful box sealing tapes to express the surfaces and the planes of the city, the weather of the city is the most fundamental element that dominates people’s lives from their emotions to habits.

Although the scientific system of weather observation is consistently developed, it is impossible to fully forecast imperfect and rapidly changing atmosphere. Weather forecasts show just a lack of imagination about the world, and might be waiting to bear fruit with your life and energy.

The exhibition "The Winds Roar and the Clouds Run“ presents the illusion of multi-layered synesthesia, going beyond audiovisual sensations, by overlapped colored tapes. Visitors are allowed to think about the energy of winds, clouds and storms they can imagine, and do act what they think on an imaginary weather chart laid on the Sky Plaza Gallery. It would give an opportunity various thoughts and questions to be encountered and crossed.

작가소개

김형관 작가는 컬러 박스테이프, 시트지를 주요 매체로 삼아 평면과 설치 작업을 넘나들며 작업합니다. 작가는 텅 빈 도시를 채우는 형태적 감각들과 그 이면의 일회성과 영속성, 신념과 믿음 등 사회의 보편적 가치들에 대한 질문들을 예술작품을 통해 제기합니다. 2018 성동디자인위크 설치작업으로 <사이사이, 곳곳에, 어느 곳이나>을 선보였으며, 최근에는 지역커뮤니티 프로젝트 팀 ‘오복시장’을 운영하며 활발히 활동하고 있습니다.

Artist Kim Hyung-Kwan usually uses colored box sealing tapes and contact papers for his works including installation arts. Through art works, he poses questions about morphological senses that fill empty cities and universal values of the society, such as one-time, permanence, faith and faith behind them. He introduced an installation work titled during the Seongdong Design Week in 2018, and now he is actively working for a local community project team called “Obok (or the Five Blessings) Market.”
