Best known for transforming the overlooked and the discarded into compelling works of art, Harman returns with a powerful new body of work that continues his ongoing interrogation of value, labour, and urban detritus. At the centre of RUSTOPIAS are two monumental skip-based installations—nomadic, towering structures composed of decommissioned materials that challenge traditional ideas of authorship, permanence, and aesthetic worth.
The exhibition expands beyond the gallery walls. Over the course of the exhibition, Harman will create a live, durational sculpture outdoors, offering visitors a rare window into his physically demanding and deeply intuitive process. This evolving work underscores the artist’s commitment to site, spontaneity, and the raw poetry of reuse.
The exhibition features new and previously unseen works that are both visually arresting and unexpectedly tender. Also on view are new paintings, sculpture, assemblages and a film by Chris L Cook.
RUSTOPIAS change a willing spectator into a witness. The work is triggering and rousing, leaving one with more questions than answers. On his quest, Harman doesn’t attempt to prescribe solutions but for the audience to participate in the problem.
