INTERACTIVE SONIFICATION | ARTLECTURE
  • INTERACTIVE SONIFICATION
    1

The workshop is open for anyone interested in the fields of interaction, the nature of sounds, sound design, generative arts, novel ways of communication. It is recommended for those who would like to integrate sounds into their workflow, being it research, artistic practice or game design. Basic knowledge of digital sound and a basic level of programming in any language is an advance.

The workshop is open for anyone interested in the fields of interaction, the nature of sounds, sound design, generative arts, novel ways of communication. It is recommended for those who would like to integrate sounds into their workflow, being it research, artistic practice or game design.

Basic knowledge of digital sound and a basic level of programming in any language is an advantage.

The workshop opens possibilities to try out the common types of sonification concepts, including

Audification Parameter mapping (multi dimensional sensory data)

Model based concept (physics, simulations)

Earcons / auditory icons / event based sonification (games)

By the end of the workshop, students will get an overall understanding of symbolic systems, different contexts of sounds and digital media, by extending examining the following steps:

Input:

converting artificial and natural environment into data (text, sensors, media etc) Process: analyzing, mapping, sequencing data Output: basic synthesis techniques, large scale sample manipulation, mechanic sound sources

Schedule:

- a short installation / preparation session / workflow overview (~ 10 mins)
- a short introduction lecture (~20 mins)
- example codes, coding & structuring (90 - 120 mins)
- idea generation / specific questions (30 - 60 mins)

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP HOLDER
Agoston is making interaction design, experimental media, generative arts using free & open source tools. He is designing dynamic systems & interfaces for networked installations, developing creative mobile applications. He is addicted to hacking, altering functions of existing contexts and ordinary objects. He regularly gives workshops and courses on interaction design and creative coding using several open source languages. He is a guest lecturer at Bergen University of Fine Arts (Norway), Moholy-Nagy University of Design & Arts (MOME, Hungary) and a HCI researcher at Prezi.com. As of 2016, he is making a post doctoral research in Realtime Interactions & Machine Learning at MOME. His works have been exhibited worldwide including China, India, Canada, Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, United States, Belgium, Hungary among others. He is the co-founder of the experimental new media design group Binaura.
