Alexandra Hopf, Being Renée Sintenis & The Women of My Life | ARTLECTURE

    1

After a two-month relocation break, we are opening the doors of our new location at Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße 45 – and starting on International Women's Day, March 8, 2025 from 6 p.m. with the solo exhibition of Alexandra Hopf: Being Renée Sintenis & The Women of My Life.

Alexandra Hopf's latest exhibition re-examines the narratives of women in art and cultural history and opens up a dialogue about the changing perceptions of self, identity and memory.

At the center of the exhibition is her new film Being Renée Sintenis, which accompanies the Berlin sculptor Renée Sintenis (1888-1965), a celebrated figure of the 1920s. The film shows how Sintenis reclaims her own history and questions the image imposed on her. The costumes of the production, rich in 20th-century art-historical references, are part of the exhibition.

In The Women of My Life, Hopf transforms 77 portraits from the historical book Unsere Zeit into 77 portraits of women from 1930 via reverse glass painting and weaves these new images into a contemporary anthology that is shaped by personal memories of influential women from the 1970s to the 1990s.

Through film, painting, and performance, Hopf creates a space for the reinterpretation of historical narratives and offers a new perspective on the evolving constructions of identity and representation.
