The world is structured in the form of circulation and continuity. The whole sphere of natural environment, universe and even our consciousness is in constant circulation and continuation, along with the birth of new entity or being. When it comes to circulation and continuation, the dimension of visibility leaves no room for doubt, but regarding consciousness and something commonly called soul, people tend to explain them relating with religious interpretations and unconsciousness and also consider them taboo, since they are not in the dimension of verification.
Our lives are in constant circulation the same way the atmospheric circulation occurs, and the consciousness also repeatedly changes its clothes called humans and circulates, this study aims to realize "reincarnation thought" through repetitive action of linear expression which is expressive component of art. This reincarnation thought is a doctrine or belief in which those who could not reach enlightenment, spiritual realm or the state of salvation are destined to be incessantly reborn until they attain the desired level.
Kandinsky explains the suppression in which the lines are intending to turn into curves, from the curves into circles, and finally, from circles to spirals. According to my perspective, this suppression can speak for the inevitable reasons why the joy and sorrow of human "life" and further "karma" must go through reincarnation.
The reincarnation thought exists in order to be more faithful to the present life and to be aware of oneself for more noble life of the next world. For this reason, this concept can be interpreted from the same context of Sartre's proposition of "existence precedes essence", as well as the "theory of encounter" of U-fan Lee in which the superiority of body was discussed.
세상은 순환과 지속의 구조로 이루어져있다. 자연환경이나 우주, 우리의 의식마저도 새로운 개체의 탄생과 함께 순환하며 지속하고 있다. 가시적인 것은 의심의 여지가 없지만 의식과 흔히 영혼이라 말하는 것도 순환을 통해 지속된다는 것은 확인이 불가능하기 때문에 종교적 해석 또는 무의식과 관련하여 설명하거나 터부시하는 경향이 있다.
우리의 삶이 대기의 순환과 마찬가지로 순환하고 있으며, 의식도 인간이라는 옷으로 반복해 갈아입으며 순환하고 있다는 점을 바탕으로, 일정한 깨달음, 경지 또는 구원된 상태에 도달하지 못한 사람은 그 상태에 도달할 때까지 계속하여 이 세상에 반복하여 태어난다는 교의 또는 믿음의 사상인 ‘윤회사상’ 을 미술의 표현구성요소인 선 표현의 반복행위를 통해 구현하고자 하였다.
칸딘스키는 선이 곡선으로, 곡선에서 원으로, 나아가 나선으로 가기 위한 억누름에 대해 설명하고 있는데, 이 억누름은 인간의 ‘삶’ 속에 담겨있는 애환, 더 나아가 ‘업보(카르마)’로 인해 윤회를 거칠 수 밖에 없는 이유를 대변할 수 있다고 생각한다.
윤회사상은 다음 세상에서 더 고귀한 삶을 살기 위해 현재의 삶에 충실하고 현재의 나를 자각하기 위함이므로 사르트르의 ‘실존은 본질에 선행한다.’라는 명제와 신체의 우위를 논했던 이우환의 ‘만남의 이론’과 같은 맥락의 개념이라고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 개념을 통해 현재의 삶을 고귀하게 여기고 그에 합당한 삶을 실천해야 함을 강조하려 함이고, 선을 통해 윤회의 과정을 우주의 폭발과 팽창의 표현에서 그친 기존 작가의 작품에서 더 나아가 무한한 선 위에 이질적 형상을 드러내어 윤회의 대상을 표현하거나, 선이 만들어내는 의도한 우연을 기반으로 형상을 드러내어 순환이라는 의미를 담아 선이 가지고 있는 영속성, 생명력, 운동성과 시간성이 무한히 엉켜있는 윤회의 실타래를 선의 자유로움을 통해 순환과 지속의 의미까지 표현하게 되었다.
