<동에서 온 보랏빛 상서로운 구름, 함곡관에 가득하네>에서 다이첸리안은 그림자놀이를 통해 현실과 꿈, 귀신 이야기와 사적인 기억을 하나의 세계로 엮어낸다. 느슨한 서사로 흘러가는 이 작품은 다이첸리안이 유년기 기억에서 따온 일상의 장면에서 출발하여 9세기 당나라 시대의 기담집 『유양잡조』에 실린 세 편의 귀신 이야기로 이어진다. 특이하게도 그 어떤 권선징악도, 인과관계도 존재하지 않는 이야기들이다. 현실과 허구가 공존하는 그 세상에서 평범한 물건은 기묘하게 낯설어지고, 천진한 이야기는 폭력적으로 둔갑하며, 비논리적이고 무의미한 것들은 새로운 감각을 획득한다.
