The 23rd Japan Media Arts Festival received 3,566 entries from 107 countries and regions in its four divisions: Art, Entertainment, Animation and Manga. In each divisions, Grand Prizes, Excellence Awards, New Face Awards, and the new awards Social Impact Award and U-18 Award were selected. Other than the four divisions, newly created award, Festival Platform Award received 46 entries from 17 countries and regions and selected Award-winning Works. In addition to it, Special Achievement Award selected people who contributed in the Field of Media Arts.
The Exhibition of Award-winning Works will present selected works featuring a wide range of styles, genres and forms of expression, as well as materials documenting the lifetime accomplishments of Special Achievement Award winners. This time, the admission limit will be set, and advance reservation will be required due to the measure against COVID-19. For the people who could not visit the Exhibition, the venue will be recorded with 360 degree camera and distributed on the special site enabling people to experience the world of Japan Media Arts Festival. Furthermore, the artist’s talk is planned to be distributed on the special site.

In 24th festival, there will be an open call for a work to be shown on the Globe-like display at Miraikan – The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation.
To be eligible for entry, works must satisfy all of the following conditions.
・Works completed or released between Saturday, November 30, 2019 and Tuesday, October 20, 2020, or new works created for the spherical exhibitions at Miraikan
・Works for spherical surfaces or domes
・Video works, or application programs capable of real-time video creation that can be projected onto a screen
