Augustas Serapinas. Roof from Rūdninkai | Exhibition
Roof from Rūdninkai explores the relationship between traditional architecture, building materials and modern sculpture. Augustas Serapina's sculptural compositions are based on elements of an abandoned wooden house in rural Lithuania. Serapinas acquires these often 19th-century buildings from various villages by scouring popular classifieds sites where they are offered for sale as firewood. Serapinas uses the historical material to create new, sculptural compositions, which in turn are reminiscent of the formal language of minimalist sculpture and refer to the architecture of the monastery ruins.
