Ken Artspace welcomes Jefford Horrigan for a solo exhibition of sculpture. As the title suggests, The Surrogate presents us with a collection of individually named works: Judith and Judith, Linett, Pete and Peter, Catherine and Catherine; works whose identity resist classification as portraits but reveal themselves as still lives. Still lives clothed in paint, where one sculpture is there because of the other and one is there instead of another. Unexpected collisions of ceramic objects with intensely coloured paint-soaked fabric command an unavoidable presence in the gallery space.
