Statement

나의 작업은 염색과정에서부터 시작된다. 염색과정은 천을 뜨거운 물에 넣고 끓이고 끈으로 꽉 묶거나 집게로 집는 등의 고통스러운 행위의 반복이다. 

나는 평소 삶과 고통, 죽음에 대해 생각해왔고 삶이 고통스럽다고 생각했다. 나는 천을 보면서 천이 나와 닮아있다고 생각했다.

하지만 그 후에 천이 고통의 과정을 딛고 아름다운 색과 무늬로 재탄생하는 것을 보면서 나는 삶이 영원히 고통스럽지는 않을 것이라는 위로를 받았다. 
그렇게 나는 천이 염색된 비정형적이며 우연적인 형상을 게슈탈트 이론의 유사성의 법칙과 같이 연상되는 형태에서부터 출발하여 새로운 표현을 탐구하려 했다. 

천이 가지는 무늬는 본래 천의 고통에서 비롯된 것이다. 
천의 형태를 구체화 시켜 고통에서 아름다움을 찾는 이유는 그것이 나에게 있어서 위안의 과정이기 때문이다. 
나의 작업은 천의 우연성을 구체적으로 정립하여 그것에서 희망을 찾는 과정이다.

My artwork starts from dyeing. The process of dyeing is the repetition of painful work; 
putting fabrics to boiling water, tying, and picking up with clips. 
I usually think about agony, death, and how painful this life is. When i look at the fabrics i dyed, they look like me.

After I saw the rebirth of fabrics from painful course to beautiful colors and patterns, it was a consolation to me that the pain of my life won't be eternal. 
I tended to explore a new atypical expression and coincidence patterns that fabrics has dyed her from reminded shape like Gestalt theory's law of similarity. 

The patterns of fabric is originated from fabric's agony. 
Finding beauty from pain and identifying the shape of fabrics are comforting me. 
My artwork is finding a hope from the course that establishes coincidence of fabrics concretely.
