The Media Art Festival is an initiative of Fondazione Mondo Digitale (FMD).
After the first edition it has proved to be the principal place in Italy dedicated to the relationship between art and technology. Given the lack of touchstone in media art field in Italy, the aim is to build up an year-long project. A production and research center, thanks to the equipment of the Innovation Gym (link), that engaged artists, critics and experts all year long looking at the Festival as the main international event.
The initiative creates a bridge between museums, cultural centers, universities, schools, structuring on three macro levels:
Culture. The Festival will exhibit the national and international excellences of media art. The exhibition is based on both the “call for artists” and artist invited. Performances, concerts, round tables, engaging the biggest international expert, will bring the visitor in the world of media art.
Education. 10 artists in 12 schools in Rome, Milan and Naples have been working in team with children in order to create an artwork, a performance or a video. The outcome will be exhibited in the context of the Festival. The winner will be selected and rewarded. During the festival there will also be guided visits for schools, events and workshops for children.
Research. The visitor have the opportunity to keep abreast of the latest research on media art. Professors, curators, experts, artists, through meetings, lectures, new events like the “aperitif with art”, will present their research on the past, present and future of media art.
