Artist in Residence Program 2019/ autumn
“Lively in-between”
Application Guideline
[ 1 ] Purpose of the Program
The Aomori Contemporary Art Centre (ACAC), Aomori Public University opened in December 2001 as an artistic institution centered on an ‘Artist in Residence’ (AIR) program. We invite to our facility artists who play an active part in the field of contemporary art. During the residency period, we hold an exhibition and various exchange programs to contribute to the creative life. Through creative activities, workshops, and lectures by the artist, the aim of the program is to help the audience gain a deeper understanding of art and to promote international exchange.
Therefore, on this AIR program, our aim is not only to support the artist whilst he creates his /her work, but also to use the program as a tool with which to educate the local audience about art. Through the encounters and the interaction between the artists and people in Aomori a new creative space will be born.
[ 2 ] Program Title: “Lively in-between”
Human beings have created everything in a space where there is nothing yet. As if filling the boring space that they have found, they build a town in the field, which expands to a city, and in a developed society, even the gap in time is filled in so that it seems to have flourished. Now people are fed up with their amplified noisiness.
People, on the other hand, have found values in an empty space. They feel comfortable in the margin of pictures and characters, feel the intonation of music by the interval of the sound, and comprehend the depth of literature by reading between the lines. In this way, we are provided with a skill to receive liveliness through our imagination and creativity from the gap that seems to be empty.
For this program, we welcome artists with such a skill as to create rich liveliness even in between things.
