2023년 9월 21일부터 11월 19일까지개최되는 제12회 서울미디어시티비엔날레 《이것 역시 지도》는 디아스포라, 이주, 언어와 경계처럼 우리가 잘 안다고 생각하는 기존의 개념을다시 보고 새롭게 읽기 위한 지도로 소개됩니다. 비엔날레의 ‘지도그리기’는 오늘날의 물리적이고 문화적인 이주로부터 생겨난 사회적 경계를 인식하고, 다양한 미디어 환경으로 야기되는 복합적인 연대를 통해 지리적 영토에 국한하지 않는 예술적 소통의 가능성을 살펴보고자합니다. 이와 같은 접근은 디아스포라나 경계 밖의 삶에서 서로 매개하고 연결하는 대안적 상태와 사회적생태계에 관한 예의 주목에서 비롯됩니다. 이것은 계속해서 변화하는 동시대 서울과 서울 주변의 산업적환경에 연루된 글로벌 관계들을 인식하는 방법이면서, 동시에 도시와 국가 경계의 안팎에서 외부적인 요인은물론 자발적인 이유로 이주와 이동을 감행하는 다양한 사람들의 움직임을 이해하는 경로가 될 것입니다. 본비엔날레는 오늘날 디아스포라가 작동하는 방식을 읽기 위해서 지리적인 영토 밖에서 형성되는 역동성과 네트워크를 드러내고, 이를 통해 초국가적인 결속, 보이지 않는 헌신, 코드화된 데이터와 같은 예술적이고 정치적인 소통을 위한 글로벌 미학을 제시할 예정입니다.

EntitledTHIS TOO, IS A MAP, the 12th Seoul Mediacity Biennale (SMB12) will opento the public at Seoul Museum of Art and several other venues across the cityof Seoul from 21 September to 19 November 2023. A press and professionalpreview day will take place on 20 September. Developed to imagine the global aestheticsof the non-territorial, the project focuses on alternative concepts ofmediating and relating that live outside of borders and looks to the necessityof abstractions and hidden and deliberately obscured languages to communicateshared existence. The project refers to the global relations that take placewithin Seoul and its industrial surroundings, and the positions and referencesof those willingly and unwillingly displaced, often multiple times over,whether within or outside of the city and state. The Biennale looks at systemsimposed or created outside of national borders, including transnationalsolidarities, “underground” commitments, the coded mapping of data andinfrastructure, as well as those of artistic and political communication.
