Shalla Javid is a narrative painter whose stories are rooted in her Persian culture, mysticism and feminism. She incorporates animals with human subjects, in a fairy-tale like atmosphere to induce a sense of nurturing grace. Relying on strong memories and the process of meditative visualization, she focuses on issues of cultural mores and gender politics.
Combining images of magical empowerment and transformation with expressive brushwork, her layered images entice viewers into her world. Her work is filled with a sense of courage and daring, hope, pain, longing and ultimately triumph.
A Zoom opening reception and artist talk is scheduled for Saturday, January 8 at 3PM. The Zoom link can be found at https://www.facebook.com/events/272817224902775
