전시 소개기획은 데이비드 핀처의 영화 <파이트 클럽(Fight Club)>과 스즈키 이즈미의 소설 <Terminal Boredom: Stories>, 또는 ‘두머’(doomer), N포세대, 히키코모리 등의 동시대 현상에 드러나는 ‘말인’(last man)의 현대적 이미지에서 출발한다. 자동화된 황홀경과 화학적인 숭고에 중독되어 포르노, 게임, 가상세계, 보조제와 증강제, 진정제 등으로 도피하는 허무주의적 인간상은, 한 반 세기 전 니체가 예언한 ‘말인’의 후손으로서, 우리의 흥분과 안정을 기계적으로 작동시키는 후기 자본주의 시스템 곳곳에서 목격되고 있다. 그런데, 단순하고 편리한 쾌락과 무난하게 보장된 안정감을 지향하는 이러한 경향에서도 반전의 가능성이 감지된다. 절망적인 무기력함의 극단으로 내몰린 이 새로운 인간상은 전통적인 가치관 및 가상-실재의 범주를 흐리며 그들의 새로운 존재 방식을 써 내려가고 있는 것 처럼 보인다. 효율과 성과를 요구하는 지배적인 시스템에 대한 태업과도 같은, 반전의 시나리오를 품고 있는 ‘말인’이란, 결국 ‘초인’의 그림자와 같은 존재일지도 모른다.  전시 ⟪I don’t want to be horny anymore, I want to be happy⟫ 은 이러한 맥락에서 동시대 ‘말인’의 이미지를 통해 회피와 해방, 내파와 외파, 자기 잠식과 황홀경, 불가능성과 가능성의 아이러니한 관계를 드러내는 작품들을 소개한다.  The research started from contemporary images of ‘last man’, as illustrated in David Fincher’s Fight Club, Suzumi Izuki’s Terminal Boredom, and notions of doomers, Satory generation, hikikomori, etc. From these hopeless images of impotent human beings today, we examined its sedative culture providing technologically assisted ecstasies with automated machines, porns, hormones, games, narcotics, multiverses, and other extra-human agencies. Though seemingly hopelessly gloomy, it seems there is radical potential in this extreme tendency of nihilistic, escapist humans in late capitalism. 아웃사이트는 종로구 혜화동에 위치한 예술공간으로 2016년 10월에 문을 열었습니다.

아웃사이트는 보편적 대의, 통계적/추상적 수치로 계측되기 어려운 오늘의 현상, 혹은 이야기들을 예술 혹은 비예술의 형태로 수용, 전시하는 것을 공간의 목적으로 합니다.

이를 위해 아웃사이트는 제도와 시장의 관습적 동일성 아래 박제되지 않는 살아있는 예술의 유통을 지향하며, 이러한 예술로의 전환 가능성을 지닌 동시대의 모든 비예술을 지지합니다.

out_sight is an art space located near Hyehwa Rotary, open since October 2016.

out_sight aims to exhibit art (and non-art) that address issues of our contemporaneity without submitting to universal ethics or hierarchical theories, and without analysing into statistic data or abstract knowledge. For this objective, out_sight supports art that do not conform to the homogenizing system of convention and market (and non-art that bear potentials for transformation into such art). out_sight cares about things that are not subsumed under the bureaucratic structure, that are not reduced into the repetitive system of signification, and that are not compatible to the mathematical coordinate. And we also intend to consider how our intervention can redefine boundaries demarcating the discourse from the oblivion.

Based on the missions stated above, out_sight pursues radical contemporaneity in which domestic and international art workers, local and global discourses, art objects and phenomena are fluidly interconnected.
