The Student competition – closes 30th November, 2022, at 13:00 (GMT) – provides a platform for photography students worldwide. Designed to challenge students undertaking top degrees / courses at institutions worldwide, the 2022 brief asks students to respond to the theme Connections through five to 10 images. A combined total of €30,000 Sony digital imaging kit to Student Photographer of the Year and their University / institution. The Youth competition is dedicated to young photographers aged from 12 to 19 years-old.

Running as monthly competitions with a changing theme running from 1 June to 31 December, 2021, budding photographers can enter up to three images per month. Monthly winners go on to compete to win the Youth Photographer of the Year title plus top Sony digital imaging equipment and global exposure. Photographers are able to register themselves in the competition using their Facebook, Weibo or Google accounts, as well as uploading images via their Instagram. Entry to the Awards is completely free and photographers are judged anonymously by a panel of industry-leading experts.
