uture 20’s Last Place On Earth, commissioned by HOME as part of their cross-art-form training initiative for young artists aged 18-25 and created with Studio Morison, consists of unworldly environments, imaginary and experimental concepts dreamt up by the artists. Size and scale are no longer concerns, as it has become possible to build a world with no limitations, where sound, film, music, poetry and sculptural forms align perfectly together in the digital realm.

Future 20 are reimagining an alternative place to reconnect with mother nature, through the virtual reality lens. A space for people to think carefully about who they are, the impacts of their behaviours and attitudes towards our planet and what actions we must take to create real positive change.

Taking as its starting point a future eco-catastrophe, Last Place on Earth asks what will the world look like when it is reborn? Digitally recreating the HOME building and Tony Wilson Place, the artists take the viewer on a rite of passage, passing through different realms that echo the five classical elements - Black Light (Light), Bleak Sea (Water), Surface Cloud (Air), Soft Stone (Earth) and Nexus Valley (Aether) - each with its own message.

The ten featured artists are Khizar Ali, Evie Appleson, Elena Brearley, James Desser, Saf Elsenossi, Jahday Ford, Sally Hirst, Connor Milligan, Maisie Pritchard and Melissa Sorrell.

Last Place on Earth can be accessed via the HOME website now.
