Residency applications must be submitted via an online application form. The application period opens on 1 February and closes on 28 February 2018.
Residencies are intended for creative professionals working in the field of art, such as artists, art historians, researchers or curators. Residency applications can be submitted by individuals for private work. Teams and groups of artists can also apply for a residency. During a residency individuals can concentrate on their own creative process, but a residency also provides an opportunity to interact with local people, visitors and the staff of Mänttä's art institutions.
Residency periods
Residency applications can be made for a period of 1-6 months. In addition to individual residency periods, applications can also be made for production residencies spread over several consecutive years. The purpose of a production residency is to allow longer-term projects. During the first residency period the focus is on familiarization with local environment. The project proposals made on this basis can then be carried out over the following years. A production residency provides good opportunities for collective work, in which case local residents can be taken into consideration.
Costs
Rent is not charged for the residency period. Instead the person-in-residency are expected to provide a written report, at least one A4-page-long (1800-1900 characters), on their stay and work at the residency. Also images or video can be attached to the report. Approved applicants will be responsible for their own travel as well as work and living costs during their residency period.
The application period for a residency is Feburuary of the preceding year. The deadline to apply for residencies beginning in 2018 has ended. Approved applicants have been informed directly.
