Blockchain and Bitcoin are now familiar concepts to most people, and the Non-Fungible Token (NFT) is the new buzzword in the blockchain world. An NFT is a way of linking ownership to digital objects such as digital artworks. Blockchain technology facilitates this activity. Currently, NFTs are in the spotlight and revolutionizing the development of digital art.
In addition to offering a new platform to (digital) artists, blockchain technology puts artists in direct contact with collectors and auction houses. As a result, artists become less financially dependent on galleries, and often, an intermediary is no longer necessary. With new freedom to work and succeed in the evolving art market, artists build their own communities.

It has always been Moco’s mission to embrace and share the latest developments and innovations in art. Moco has two augmented reality apps available for free: the Moco Play App that brings works of art to life and Moco Outside, where you can view a digital exhibition by Studio Irma on Museumplein from your own smartphone. With this unique NFT exhibition, Moco is one of the first museums in the world to respond to the NFT trend. The collection consists of the most sought-after digital artworks from well-known NFT artists like Beeple (Mike Winkelmann). Earlier this year, a work by Beeple sold for $69 million at auction – the third-highest price ever paid for a work by a living artist.
