Revisiting moments of embarrassment in everyday life, Roper's paintings evoke awkward situations and encounters that otherwise become overlooked. The images are drawn from specific events in familiar environments; the work purposefully make a spectacle of the uncomfortable and exploit the awkwardness endured. In her depictions, Roper draws from personal experience in a self-deprecating manner, observing the uneasiness of the world around.
