‘Fatebe’ is Muslimova’s emblem of bodily liberation and surreal narrative. Known for her unflinching perspective and technical skill, the artist places this character in contorted poses and unexpected situations. The detailed oil paintings and gestural drawings each act as a standalone performance, merging absurd comedy with psychological depth. The exhibition at Kunsthall Stavanger combines new, large-scale paintings and works on paper with artworks from private collections to expand Fatebe’s universe. Luxurious and domestic settings meet surreal landscapes to create a feeling of psychological ambiguity. Gathered together, these works present Muslimova’s ongoing exploration of identity, self-consciousness, and the expressive potential of the body.
