Exploring Shadows | ARTLECTURE
  • Exploring Shadows
    1

This showing is a result of Mira’s interest in exploring that which is not seen, or only glimpsed in the shadows. She likes involving the viewer in the creation of her work, inviting them to imagine what is out of sight, thus furthering the narrative of the image beyond the canvas.

Mira prefers to use a limited palette - sometimes just two colours- to create a mood. This tonalist style is evident in this collection, the bulk of which is made up of works based on the films of Andrei Tarkovski and Béla Tarr. In celebration of Noirvember there are also paintings invoking a similar tonal mood.

As the paintings depict life in Eastern Europe, there will be a short reading at the Private View based on her childhood in Yugoslavia.

The paintings are based on images in Tarkovski’s Andrei Rublev, Stalker and Ivan’s Childhood; and Tarr’s Sántántangó and The Turin Horse.
