In this exhibition a self-portrait acts as a guide to think about the possibilities of presenting oneself; it is playing with cultural references, it's commenting on existing canons of fine art, it is examining the concepts of authenticity and identity by blurring the lines between the artist and the portrayed person as a way to build more multilayered and less individual narrative.
In this exhibition the self-portrait is always changing in its essence, it is challenging the expectations associated with the tradition of self-portraiture and portraiture, it is aiming to disassemble them without reassembling any particulars in their stead, it is telling multiple narratives at once.
Queer is always unparticular and more than one.
As queer escapes all categories, a queer self-portrait escapes the boundaries of a self-portrait.
In this exhibition things
(which things?)
leak into one another.
Puss in boots is an exhibition by two artists, Miska Mio and Alex Keyriläinen, consisting of oil paintings, drawings and woodcuts. The exhibition can be seen in Galerie Pleiku 20.8.2024 –
