From modest beginnings as a dreamer hailing from the Danish countryside to a significant figure in the sub-cultural landscape of the Berlin art scene, Erling Viktor’s evolution as an artist has been directly impacted by his journey all along the way.
This artistic opus took Viktor from the distinguished Royal Academy of Danish Design in Copenhagen, to the infamous queer squats of Amsterdam in the 90s, to Cairo on a mission of love alongside the call of self-directed studies in Egypt, back to Copenhagen– to anywhere his conscience would take him, always on his own terms, always searching to fill in the missing piece of the existential puzzle. Eternally using the tool of human impulse as his guide, Viktor eventually found his grounding in Berlin.
.
His multi-faceted practice and drifter-like journey have given heed to circumstantially specific mediums, such as drawing and painting. These mediums are the catalyst and root of his exhibition, covering his unrest, movement and change. For The Journey is the Destination, Viktor offers an entire spectrum of the trajectory of his practice, ranging from self portraits, to images of men encountered along the pathway of his life, the male gaze, odes to nature and architecture, love, and musings of the night.
Viktor’s artistic journey is as telling as the trajectory of his life, as they are paradoxically intertwined- his life Odyssey is his Oeuvre.
