J.M.W Turner meets the movie
This is not a biographical film about landscape painter J.M.W Turner. As the stories of famous people can be found through various mediums, the title itself may cause a bit of disappointment. However, if the time based film medium can meet with Turner, the visual expression may reach a point of change.
With Turner’s pictures that depict rising images and atmospheric changes based on time, the movies interestingly corresponds with the texture of sequence specific images (in other words, images that flow with time). Therefore, rather than focusing on the famous painter Turner’s form, the movie depicts the landscapes and traces of time behind him. Time and space are skillfully expressed within the movie medium through the fragmentation of momentary incidents showing changes in Turner’s light and colors, attracting positive reactions from viewers.
In real life, it’s a known fact that Turner (his personality) isn’t very expressive. However, the flow of these delicate feelings is portrayed in detail through controlled acting from the characters, Mike Lee’s directing, and the relationships and life’s principles within the landscapes behind Turner’s vision. The landscapes within Turner’s vision portray a story of life within endlessing moving time in silence.
