Aubrey Levinthal (b. 1986, Philadelphia, PA, USA) studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and lives and works in Philadelphia. Her paintings are mostly on wood and are characterized by their ability to evoke a melancholic state that speaks to the ubiquitous, everyday feeling of restlessness and vulnerability - a feeling that has been heightened by the Corona pandemic over the past two years. Her subjects are all close to home: herself and her family, friends, and colleagues. In the new paintings, she focuses for the first time on moments in the outside world - an instant of reflection in a café, a minute of quiet in a parked car, a pause at a picnic in the park or on a bench. But no matter how familiar, ordinary, or lugubrious the situation, the artist evokes its innate strangeness. This is Aubrey Levinthal's first solo exhibition in Europe.
